flower icon for STAISAD The STAXI-2 can be used to assess anger components in detailed evaluations of normal and abnormal personality. Use the STAXI-2 as a screening and outcome measure in psychotherapy and stress management programs, particularly in the field of behavioral medicine. Studies support its use in research on heart disease, hypertension, cancer, and a variety of psychosomatic and behavioral disorders. Fifty seven items measure the intensity of anger as an emotional state and the disposition to experience angry feelings as a personality trait. Scales include: State Anger, Trait Anger, Anger Expression-Out, Anger Expression In, Anger Control-Out, Anger Control-In and Anger Expression Index. The STAXI requires a fifth grade reading level.

About the STAXI-2

The STAXI-2 State Anger scale assesses the intensity of anger as an emotional state at a particular time. The Trait Anger scale measures how often angry feelings are experienced over time. The Anger Expression and Anger Control scales assess four relatively independent anger-related traits: (a) expression of anger toward other persons or objects in the environment (Anger Expression-Out); (b) holding in or suppressing angry feelings (Anger Expression-In); (c) controlling angry feelings by preventing the expression of anger toward other persons or objects in the environment (Anger Control-Out); and (d) controlling suppressed angry feelings by calming down or cooling off (Anger Control-In).
