The Body Insight Scale (BIS) measures three forms of body awareness that support physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being. It is sensitive to measurement of low and high levels of body awareness. The BIS was developed and evaluated in communities that value physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being.

Uses of the BIS

  • Clinical evaluation of comfort and trauma within the body (C-BAS) , ability to notice changes in bodily sensations (I-BAS) and sensitivity to energy changes both within the body and in response to others and the environment (E-BAS)
  • Psychological and health research generally
  • Clinical trials with individuals with a history of trauma and abuse, weight-management challenges, or physical illnesses aggravated by stress, such as asthma, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, fibromyalgia, and migraine headaches
  • Enhancement of higher levels of body awareness for healthy individuals who wish to improve overall well-being

Comfort Body Awareness Scale (C-BAS)
Measures feelings of comfort with one's body and a sense of well-being in the world.

Inner Body Awareness Scale (I-BAS)
Measures awareness of minor changes within the body and the relationship of these sensations to health and well-being.

Energy Body Awareness Scale (E-BAS)
Measures awareness of energy within the body and around the body, including energy changes in response to others and the environment.
