A measure of shyness
Warren H. Jones & Stephen Briggs
A valuable measure for understanding shyness as a unique and separate dimension of personality. This twenty-item measure of social shyness was originally developed as a basic tool for research on personality factors in interpersonal behavior and relationships, but it is also useful in applied settings.
- SRS is brief, easily administered and scored
- Validity and reliability assessed with a variety of procedures; measures of internal and test-retest reliability are presented
- Assesses convergent (e.g., shyness self-labeling, concurrent measures of shyness), discriminant (e.g., related constructs, response bias), construct (e.g., other measures of emotion, personality, relationship satisfaction and participation, and interpersonal ratings) and predictive validity.
- Manual presents alternative scoring procedure for empirically derived components of SRS responses
- Scale level representative data for over 2,500 respondents
